Hypertext

Text prepared and published in such a way that it is linked together in a non-sequential web of associations that allows the user to navigate through related topics, from one document to another. It can include other media, e.g., graphics, images, and especially the continuous media - sound and video. Apparently, Ted Nelson was also the first to use this term. The author embeds hyperlinks in the text that the user can simply click on to view the related document associated with the link. HyperText is the method by which you move around on the web — by clicking on special text called hyperlinks which bring you to the next page. The fact that it is hyper just means it is not linear — i.e. you can go to any place on the Internet whenever you want by clicking on links — there is no set order to do things in.
